The word tifinagh (singular tafinəq < *ta-finəɣ-t) is thought by some scholars to be a Berberized feminine plural cognate or adaptation of the Latin word "Punicus", (meaning "Punic" or "Phoenician") through the Berber feminine prefix ti- and the root √FNƔ < * √PNQ < Latin Punicus thus tifinagh could possibly mean "the Phoenician (letters)" or "the Punic letters". To simulate this using 2 standard decks of cards just assume that all red cards are one suit and the other suit is all black cards. This is a common variant of spider solitaire seen in many computer versions. For example King of Spades all the way down to the Ace of Spades. However there must be at least one card in each column when you do this. You can deal 10 cards from the cards remaining, one to each column if you cannot make any moves.Any group or single card you might be able to move can be placed on an empty column. If a card that is face down in a column is open it must be turned over. For example you could move a 10, 9 and 8 of diamonds as a group onto any open Jack. Groups of cards can only be moved if they are all in the same suit and are in perfect descending order. For example any 9 can be placed on any 10. A single card can only be moved to another pile if the card being moved is one less than the card it will be placed on.It's probably best to explain the detailed rules for the 4 suit version of the game first and then explain the changes for the easier two suit version and one suit version. All three use the same basic rules, but the way the cards can be moved is slightly different for the easier version. There are three possible versions of spider solitaire. These cards will cover all 8 columns, forcing you to rearrange them so you can reach any grouped columns you have created and arranged previously. You can deal more cards to the layout by clicking the card located in the bottom right. It is vitally important to use this well, as freeing up other options is exactly what this card game is about. If a column is empty you can place anything on it. For this reason wherever possible it is best to create descending columns of the same suit. When trying to move a column of cards, they can only be moved if they are all in the same suit. ![]() A Queen of Hearts can cover any Red King or Black King). The rest of the cards remain in the deck to be used later. The last 6 columns of cards have 4 cards dealt face down, with the fifth and final card on these columns dealt face up. ![]() The first 4 columns of cards have 5 cards that are face down with the sixth card at the bottom dealt face up. You must rearrange the deal to uncover the cards underneath. You will see at the start of the game that 10 columns are dealt at the top, with only the top card shown. Spider Solitaire is played with two decks of 52 cards with all jokers removed. When a column like this is created it is automatically removed from the game freeing up space and opening up cards for you to continue. The goal of this solitaire game is to remove 8 columns of cards at the bottom, each descending from King to Ace in a single suit. However when you do finally win, it's a great feeling! When playing spider solitaire on its most difficult setting, you will have to quit and restart many, many times. Spider solitaire requires patience, logical thinking and luck. It is also an immensely challenging free online solitaire game, that is assuming you elect to play with 4 suits! However thanks to its simple rules it is quite easy to learn how to play even if it requires some serious thought to try and win a round. Disruption of axonal tracts from the Grueneberg ganglion, a structure implicated in alarm chemosignaling, or blockade of pups' alarm odor-induced corticosterone increase prevented transfer of fear. Maternal presence was not needed for fear transmission, because an elevation of pups' corticosterone induced by the odor of the frightened mother along with a novel peppermint odor was sufficient to produce pups' subsequent aversion to that odor. Examination of pups' neural activity using c-Fos early gene expression and (14)C 2-deoxyglucose autoradiography during mother-to-infant fear transmission revealed lateral and basal amygdala nuclei activity, with a causal role highlighted by pharmacological inactivation of pups' amygdala preventing the fear transmission. Here, using a rodent model, we report a mother-to-infant transfer of fear to a novel peppermint odor, which is dependent on the mother expressing fear to that smell in pups' presence. Within normal range, this is adaptive, although pathological fear, such as occurs in posttraumatic stress disorder or specific phobias, is also socially transmitted to children and is thus of clinical concern. For example, children witnessing their parent expressing fear to specific sounds or images begin to express fear to those cues. Focusing this study on third generation survivors expands scientific knowledge regarding transmission of trauma and provides direction to clinical social workers treating individuals who may have a history of intergenerational trauma.Emotional trauma is transmitted across generations. Findings indicate that rather than ruminating on the pain of their ancestors, focusing attention on their strength may result in the ability to move past the pathological symptoms. ![]() The third generation appears to be reconstructing their grandparents’ history, resurfacing their legacy, and in doing so they are realizing the strength and heroic battles their grandparents fought in order to get to the place they are today. Previous research points to the transmission of pathologic symptoms this study strongly suggests that among third generation survivors, pride, strength, and gratitude are as much a part of the legacy as the negative effects of the experience. The questionnaire was administered to a purposive sample of (N=30) of third generation survivors through REDCap, an online survey database. The questions emerged from the literature as well as the search for perceptions and meanings and utilized Vikor Frankl’s existential theory. This article by Alasdair Rae, professor in Urban Studies and Planning, University of Sheffield, was originally published on The Conversation.Credit: Cary Anderson, Penn State University, Data Source: US Census Bureau. Note: the final column shows how many 1km cells have people in them, but within that the level of density also varies, so this is not a “percent urbanised” measure. By using a more sophisticated measure, we can gain a more nuanced perspective of settlement patterns and relative densities and, hopefully, better capture the reality on the ground in towns and cities. I have provided the data for all 39 countries, where available, so you can compare the figures for yourself. Arithmetic population density measures can be useful, but on their own they don’t always help inform public debate, or match up with our perceptions of urban density. The lived density figure for the Netherlands is 546 people per km², compared to 531 for England, 204 for Wales, 200 for Scotland and 160 for Northern Ireland.Īlthough these population numbers are a little dated now (they are based on 2011 data), they can still demonstrate how population density figures might differ from what we experience in our day-to-day lives. When we look at “lived density” across Europe, it’s fair to say that England is a densely populated country – but it still sits behind Spain and the Netherlands on the list of major European nations, and below the microstates of Monaco, Andorra and Malta. Globally, the highest figure is close to 200,000, in Dhaka, Bangladesh. England’s most densely populated km², in West London, has just over 20,000 people in it. There are 33 1km² areas across Europe with a population of 40,000 or more: 23 are in Spain, and ten are in France. France also has an area with more than 50,000 people in a single km², in Paris.īarcelona from above: possibly the most densely populated km² in Europe. This also helps explain why Spain has the most densely populated km² in Europe more than 53,000 people inhabit a single 1km² area in Barcelona. In fact, Spain could claim to be the most densely populated major European country by this measure, despite its appearance on the map. So even though the settlement pattern appears sparse, people are actually quite tightly packed together. This means that the “lived density” for Spain is in fact 737 people per km², rather than 93. ![]() But only 13 per cent of them are lived in. ![]() Spain contains within it more than 505,000 1km squares. Yet characterising Spain as a sparsely populated country does not reflect the experience on the ground – as anyone who knows Barcelona or Madrid can tell you. The reasons for this date back to Medieval times, as Daniel Oto-Peralías at the University of St Andrews has explained. This is borne out in the map, where much of Spain appears to be empty much more so than any other large European country. ![]() It has a population density of 93 people per km², giving the impression of a sparsely populated country. The Spanish distributionĪ good way to understand this measure is to look at Spain. I call this figure “lived density”, since it provides a way of seeing the kinds of population densities that people experience in their day-to-day lives, within built-up areas. This is the so-called “ blue banana”, or dorsale européenne (European backbone), identified by French geographer Roger Brunet in 1989, and it is home to more than 110m people.īut we can get further clarity still by honing in on “built-up” density, which takes into account only those 1km² areas with people living in them. For example, we can see an area of high population density extending in a rough arc from north-west England down to Milan, with a little break in the Alps. This bird’s eye view helps us to understand the wider context. |
